We stopped by Yamato on an early weekday afternoon. Never having visited, as we walked in we look for direction on where to go, or if we should wait to be seated. The interior is dark, half of it near the entrance is empty, but we spotted a waitress near the tables who waved and pointed us to a row of booths.
Multiple patrons were walking in, and they were all directed the row of booths we were in. As the row filled up, and waitress finally came by. We selected one order of crab rolls, one california roll and one shrimp hibachi grill. Food arrived relatively quickly, but overall there was very little interaction between us and the server, and none after the meal was delivered.
Overall the food was decent, most especially the hibachi plate. The rice in the rolls was too al dente. It was just sticky enough to create the roll, but only just. I would have like to have had more wasabi, but since the server never made another appearance, I didn’t get the opportunity to ask.
Since it was my companion’s first time eating Japanese, we had more fun talking and experiencing the food than doing a deep dive for a critique. In fact, neither of us thought to take pictures.
Will we go back? Absolutely. I’d like to give the place another look at a different time of day. We’ll update the review then.
