Beverly’s is a small cafe located in a strip mall off of Highway 69. We were excited to finally visit Beverly’s because sometimes letting someone else cook breakfast is a nice respite. The dining room is large and open and the decor fits what you would expect for a small diner in a small town. When you arrive, there’s a large sign pointing you to sit yourself. Signage is great for newcomers who don’t know the drill. It was appreciated.
Once we were seated, a server was quick to get our drink order. Diner coffee should be hot, strong, and bottomless. That wasn’t the case here. The coffee was good, but took awhile to get refills, which in my book knocks a full star off right off the bat.
The food came out hot, and plentiful but to be honest, I was disappointed. The biscuits were huge, but dry (super dry) and crumbly. Without gravy they were inedible. If I was to guess, I would say they were cooked the day before and refrigerated, losing all their moisture.
Was it good? Not particularly. Was it bad? Not really. It was just disappointingly bland. Not great. Not bad. Not really good. Disappointing.
For as many employees that were on shift, there should have been ample coffee and a spotless dining room yet neither was the case. Highly disappointing. Overall the dining room was surface clean, but a deeper look one would discover debris in the booth crevices and gum under the table.
Will we go back? Probably not. I will say, it beats Denny’s. But is that really a compliment?
